The ultimate comfort food to lift spirits in even the dodgiest student flat isolation bunker. Flex your quarantine culinary skills with these three toasted sandwich recipes.
Ham, Cheese + Pineapple Toastie
There are two types of people in this world. Those that like cooked Pineapple and Ham; and those that are objectively wrong about everything, should never be asked their opinion and will likely die alone and have their Roomba clean up evidence they ever existed.
Ingredients:
Tin of pineapple, diced
Champagne ham, sliced
Handful of grated cheese
Bread
Method:
Butter the bread and arrange it, buttered side down in the sandwich press.
Add cheese, ham and diced pineapple. Cover with the remaining slice of bread, buttered side up.
Cook the sandwich for 4 minutes, flipping after 2 minutes if you’re cooking in a pan, until golden brown.
Banana and Nutella Toastie
Nothing says welcome to campus life, especially for international visitors, quite like the Nutella and Banana toastie. It is the ultimate enduring symbol of personal freedom and a sign that drug reform won’t actually change much in this country
Ingredients:
1 Banana, sliced
Nutella
Bread
Method:
Butter the bread and add Nutella. Arrange it, buttered side down in the sandwich press or oiled frypan.
Add sliced banana and cover with the remaining slice of bread, buttered side up.
Cook the sandwich for 4 minutes, flipping after 2 minutes if you’re cooking in a pan, until golden brown.
Cheese + Cream Corn Toastie
You know who has time to make Sweetcorn fritters? Unemployed Bachelor of Arts graduates and WSU staff. For everyone else, there is the humble cheese and sweetcorn toastie.
Ingredients:
Tin of cream corn
Handful of grated cheese
BreadMethod:
Butter the bread and arrange it, buttered side down in the sandwich press.
Add cheese and a dollop of cream corn. Cover with the remaining slice of bread, buttered side up.
Cook the sandwich for 4 minutes, flipping after 2 minutes if you’re cooking in a pan, until golden brown.
