Yes, I treat my elective courses as a hobby generator. And yes, I’ve acquired skills in areas ranging from media production to psychology, and even to anthropology. But do I remember most of them? No, I don’t. However, it was fun regardless. Many people become stressed about school until they realize their hobby has turned into a professional career, and then they decide to go separate ways from what once brought them joy. So, have you met elective papers? Don’t know her? Here are my two ‘logical’ rationales for why people should stop ignoring the wide range of courses available at their university:
Good for your CV: Imagine applying for a position where everyone has the same résumé, skill sets, and has graduated from the same university. You stand out because you have skills in Adobe software or copywriting that you learned from creative courses. Also, non-fiction writing courses are helpful for jobs that require a balance between creativity and reporting.
Enjoy your hobby while pursuing a money-making degree: This is me speaking from the perspective of a 17-year-old who skipped high school because they hated chemistry to pursue a degree with absolutely no knowledge of what it was about (except for its above-average salary prospects). Studying Media Production allows me to do something I enjoy as well as be creative while working towards a Communications Bachelor.
