Obviously there isn’t much in the way of sporting entertainment these days but to round up the month we’ve decided to break down the top athletes in the news over the June and July period.

Dan Hooker

Big props to Kiwi fighter Dan Hooker. Hooker was part of one of the greatest lightweight UFC bouts in recent memory. Despite literally taking his loss on the chin, Hooker managed to leave it all in the ring in what can only be described as a scrap. Punches were thrown, kicks landed and both fighters ended up in the doctor’s office.

Lewis Hamilton

After collecting a controversial fourth place at the Austrian Grand Prix, Hamilton sought out some revenge in the second race of the 2020 season. In Germany, Hamilton managed to secure pole position by 1.2 seconds which, in the realm of F1, is light years ahead of the competition. He then won the event the following day.

Patrick Mahomes

The NFL season hasn’t started yet but Mahomes makes the cut for receiving the largest contract in sports history. A contract worth over half a billion dollars that puts new meaning to the word “faith”.

JR smith

Didn’t do anything amazing but signed with the Lakers before their move to Disneyland ahead of the NBA restart. Smith live streamed his Disney-hotel room complaining about the food, service and room which resulted in a live telling-off from his new team after a fortnight of actually having a job.
