Kia ora koutou, ko Leah tōku ingoa
Nō Māwhera me Tauranga ahau
He kaiwhakaako hōkī ahau
Hi all! My name is Leah.
I was born in Greymouth along the West Coast of the South Island and now live in Tauranga.
I am also a hockey coach! I am the WSU Tauranga Director and absolutely love the fact that I get the chance to bring Tauranga voices to the table! I am in my third year of my Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree majoring in Psychology. The end goal is to be working with young children and adolescents to create an environment that allows them to flourish.
When I am not studying and trying to remember that graduation is six months away, I am either working or coaching hockey in schools through the local club. Hockey has been my passion since I was 5 years old. Unfortunately, as my brother likes to say I “decided to play soccer” during a hockey game and injured my foot so I’m currently awaiting foot surgery.
I have loved every minute of serving as the WSU Tauranga Director so far. There is so much more I hope to give the students by the end of the year and I will not back down from a constructive debate if the Tauranga students want something to happen (within reason obviously). During my campaign speech I mentioned I wanted to focus on building strength and unity using four key pillars – these were manaakitanga (non-judgemental relationships), whanaungatanga (a sense of belonging), kotahitanga (inclusive environments) and hūmārie (building kindness). These four pillars will continue to guide me whilst I serve on the WSU board.
Club Bio – ASH
ASH is a new academic student association representing students from the School of Health. For a small club we have big ambitions! We’ve already had five events, each one better than the last. In the year ahead you can expect to see a flat party, employer speaker series, field games, and Chiefs tickets given away on our Facebook page. If you want to get amongst, give our Facebook a like: facebook.com/ashuow
