The Future Is Female
As you flip through the pages of this issue of Nexus, one thing is clear: to celebrate women is to celebrate possibility, perseverance, and the power behind shaping our ever-changing future.
Let’s start with something big: dismantling the patriarchy. It’s a term we hear a lot, but what does it really mean? Simply put, it’s the system that’s been holding women back for way too long, whether it’s in the workplace, politics, or even at home. The good news? We’re seeing more and more people—women and men alike—calling it out and pushing for change. Every story you’ll read here shows how breaking down these old, unfair systems is not only possible but necessary if we want a fairer world for everyone. Practice micro-feminism, stop moving out of the way for men on the footpath. No matter what you do, do not let men and the patriarchy dictate your choices and your path.
But change isn’t just about tearing things down—it’s also about protecting what matters. Protecting women means making sure they’re safe, respected, and free to make their own choices. That includes everything from standing up against gender-based violence to fighting for equal pay and reproductive rights. Reproductive rights should not be up for discussion, especially not by rooms full of men. It’s about creating spaces where women don’t have to hold back or live in fear. Making sure that women in male dominated spaces are taken care of and not being overshadowed by a man with double the ego but half the ability and experience. Women can be stay at home mums or they can be CEOs; whatever your path is, own it, it is valid. And honestly, protecting women should be a no-brainer—it’s a basic human right.
Now, here’s something super important: women aren’t all the same. Intersectionality is a big word, but it just means recognising that women’s experiences are shaped by lots of different things—like race, class, sexuality, and ability. The women featured in this issue come from all walks of life, and their stories remind us that equality must include everyone. When we think about intersectionality, we make sure no one gets left behind in the fight for fairness. Trans women are real women, black female lives matter, neurodivergence can look completely different in females—it’s still real and valid.
