Bad Bitches Build Bridges – Issue 12
I feel very strongly about Taylor Swift and pop music in general. While I understand why others might not, her songwriting is undeniable – particularly her uncanny ability to craft a bridge so structurally sound they may as well replace the ol’ squiggly Fairfield number with her work. Here are some of the best of said bridges.
- Getaway Car
Lyricism at it’s finest, Reputation in general was slept on, probably because everyone was on the snake bandwagon.
- Don’t Blame Me
This song is a religious experience. The drops. The choir-like background vocals.
- Out Of The Woods
Honestly, as a Swiftie I had a moral conniption putting songs on this playlist that were owned by Scooter Braun but I wouldn’t be doing her civil engineering services justice without them. If you want to dive into the folklore of this one I suggest googling ‘did Harry Styles and Taylor Swift commit vehicular manslaughter?’
- All Too Well
This is hands down her best song, a big call but iykyk and there’s extensive literature on the topic. I would say who hurt you Tay, but we all know it was Jake Gyllenhaal. </3
- Cruel Summer
This nearly replaces All Too Well as the all-time Taylor bridge. HE LOOKS UP GRINNIN’ LIKE A DEVIL gets you on another level.
- The Moment I Knew
An underrated tune that will take you right back to the night you found your Year 13 ball date pashing the WA from the A grade netball team.
- Sparks Fly
The anthemic guitars. The build. A bridge as flawless as the Golden Gate.
- The Way I Loved You (Taylor’s Version)
This song had a resurgence on TikTok (as it should) and still holds up as a screamable car classic.
- White Horse (Taylor’s Version)
Much like London Bridge – reliable, faithful, a classic, splits you in half.
- august
This bridge takes the win for a flawless folk-pop-bass-drop. Don’t ask me what that is you’ll know when you hear it.
- Death By A Thousand Cuts
A post-break up depression masterpiece disguising itself as an up-tempo pop track.
