Wet Denim
We usually like asking the basics, like what does the name mean? Wet Denim is hella unique name – is there a story there?
We had just started jamming together and had been thinking hard of a potential name but nothing was sticking. Then one fateful afternoon, our friend Katie came to the flat after being caught in the rain while wearing jeans. She sat down and exclaimed “Wet Denim!” And the rest is history.
On the topic of being unique, try explaining your sound like the comment section on a middle-age mum’s facebook post.
(Based off actual, middle-aged mum’s gossip)
“Wow! These boys are trendy! Surprisingly professional with a name like Wet Denim!”
Who’s who in the band, what’s everyone’s names and their “Most likely to…” high-school superlative?
Nick Goodwin is a guitarist and the lead singer, and in high school was the most likely to be a country music superstar. He still needs to work on his twang!
Joe Ledword plays a big old bass, and was the most likely to fart in an elevator full of people.
Luca Crampton plays the other guitar, and sometimes twiddles on a keyboard. He actually did once win “most likely to say ‘hold my drink’” – even if these days it could just be water.
Jack Ledword (yes he is Joe’s brother – which probably explains a few things!) likes to hit things with sticks. In our case, the drums. In his time at high school, he was the most likely to ‘shut up and play ball’.
Congrats on the newest EP release by the way. What’s the general vibe of the tracks?
1. Track one, ‘Free’, is an uplifting rock track which explores self development through emotional liberation. This was the first track we ever jammed together.
2. The second song, ‘Another Hit’ is a lockdown track, examining feelings of isolation and breaking old habits. Sonically, this one is more laid back, with piano and a more beachy vibe.
3. ‘Broken Glass’ comes third. This is our most energetic track for sure, an angsty tune that follows two different narratives in a relationship. This one always goes crazy live.
4. The fourth song is ‘Beautiful Misunderstanding’, our ballad on the EP. Starting low with an acoustic guitar, this track builds up to a huge crescendo. ‘Beautiful Misunderstanding’ continues on from the previous tracks, taking an introspective look back at the previous emotional journey.
5. Finally, we have ‘As They Come’. This little ditty closes the project with a positive message and super large chorus. “So I take each day as it comes, because I know it’s gonna fall back down, and I’m okay when I’m not that okay because I know it’s gonna turn around.”
Okay, you’ve been emailed that you’re headlining RNV (or your favourite equivalent), who do you want to be in the same line-up. Who are you wanting to follow?

What’s everyone’s favourite snack currently, what are we eating post gig?
Luca: Two turnips and a pack of raisins.
Jack: Pretzel sticks and anything with a bit of… smell.
Nick: One onion eaten like an apple (kin on).

Easy one here, who are some local artists that we should also be listening to?
Easy! Tahini Bikini, AACACIA, Mikeyy, Esbee, Trinity Roots, Haven, Sure Boy, Marlon Williams, could go on forever!
