The fires of war in Sudan
The fires of war in Sudan continue to rage, with the frontline shifting from the capital, moving west into the oil-rich region of Kordofan. The Rapid Support forces (RSF) have been making advances into the region for the past few months, with the Sudan Armed forces (SAF) now redoubling their efforts, attempting to regain territory lost in the months prior. Control of Kordofan means control of the oil fields, and with it comes significant political and economic power.
The Crisis began in 2023, where the leader of the SAF worked with the RSF to stage a coup d’etat against the civilian government. When tensions built due to differences in opinion, the RSF turned on the army, plunging the country – once more – into war, with reports regularly coming in detailing civilian massacres, and outrageous humanitarian conditions. The crisis continues.
