Four women were involved in a terrifying near miss after their car stalled on the Grey Street railway crossing in Hamilton. The event occurred on Saturday the 15th March, when a small hatchback carrying four passengers stalled as the railway crossing barriers were being lowered.

A bystander recorded the event, with footage showing the moment the occupants were forced to abandon their car and watch as the train crashed into it. The train driver attempted to brake but was unable to stop and the vehicle was extensively damaged in this collision. The bystander who witnessed the event commented that they had to yell at the women to escape.

While this incident left no injuries, it was still a terrifying experience for all involved. Rail safety charity TrackSafe’s foundation manager Megan Drayton urged caution on railway crossings among the community.
