Conversations about psychedelics, especially acid end in one of two ways: “don’t do it” or “DO IT!”, I’m here to say, give acid a go, but within reason. Whether you’re new to drugs or have done a few too many, it’s common knowledge that everyone has different reactions to things.

Acid seems to be one of those drugs where reactions are one of two extremes. Though, I’ve only known bad reactions to come from taking too much at any single time. Acid, at a healthy dose, has become a mind cleaner for me. When I was in a low place, lost, and had no sense of who I was, I turned to acid to help me get through some of the extra rough nights. Though it’s never okay to abuse or try to escape from reality with drugs, sometimes trying new things (despite the stigma behind them) can be a beneficial thing.

I found myself accepting things I had been denying, or trying to change, letting go of things I had gripped onto closely, and overall, feeling more okay with being myself. After many years of religious trauma, bullying, and repression: acid helped me to accept and understand my sexuality and gender identity.

Of course—with every substance—there is a threshold which should not be crossed. Acid is a psychedelic, so too much of it can be very dangerous, for the body and mind. Although standard doses helped me understand myself, too much acid can lead to isolation, fear, and loss of self.

When trying new drugs, always try a smaller dose than standard just to see how you react. As you get a feel for your experience, slowly introduce more and more. Once you get the results you desire DO NOT go above that dosage, after all, any drug can ruin your life.
