Do I know if someone has already done a random audit on this class? Absolutely not, and I don’t care. This dumbass, meaning me, was going to audit another class only to find out that the lecture does not exist. I won’t be taking questions on how I managed that. So, after a quick scramble, I land in Psychology 101, which sounds like a fantastic choice for little old me with my mental disorders, highly medicated brain, and piss poor well-being. For a class that kicks off at 2.10, it’s almost completely packed at 1.59. I guess I should have expected that, but I don’t do a degree with classes any bigger than an S block lecture. This is insane.
As you’d expect, as the first lecture of the trimester, this one is all about introduction to the course and yada yada yada. And yes, I know it’s psychology so I shouldn’t have been surprised, but look who popped up on the screen! It’s Mr Freud back again to haunt me. These psych majors must get really sick of this guy.
Right, so, let’s get into the shit I have no idea about because I’m a writing major. We’re talking about psychodynamic perspective, and it’s being represented by that picture of an iceberg people use on tiktok to say that they’re a better music fan than you because they know ‘deeper’ songs from an artist. Whatever psychodynamic perspective is, it’s obviously a raging pick me girl, and I’m not interested. But for those with slightly less developed brains, psychology involves looking at the ABC’s! Maybe taking this class isn’t a bad idea; they might be looking at colours next. And even better, the lecturer is now telling us that there are psychological things we can do in order to make ourselves more attractive, and someone will fall in love with us. I wish I could share the secret with you guys, but I won’t lie, I wasn’t actually listening when she told us the tip. Sorry, a girl needs to multitask.
As always, there’s two girls in the back who will not put those two pink things on their faces called lips back together and do this thing called being quiet. There are always those two, and I’ve found them. But in front of me sits a gorgeous girl taking the most organized notes I’ve ever seen. Shout out to you girl, your nails are epic, and I hope you never get cursed with classes on Friday afternoons.
As someone with zero interest in psychology, overall, not a bad lecture. I did leave halfway through because they got onto admin in the second half, and I had no need to stay for that. I also wanted a nap.
Rating things that the people around me were doing instead of taking notes and actively listening:
- watching love island 6/10 – I respect the vibe, but there are better things you could be watching, like Brooklyn 99 or something.
- yapping 1/10 – if you’re going to sit in a lecture and just talk, don’t even show up to the lecture.
- sudoku 9/10 – keeping the brain stimulated. Very nice.
- playing games on their phones 5/10 – nothing original, but when you’re bored, you’re bored.
