This movie had never been anywhere close to being on my radar, but I’ve got some theatre-kid friends, so I ended up falling in love with a hundred and twenty minutes of Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams singing very badly. Well, Will sang badly. Rachel’s character was actually incredible, and he needed to learn to shut his mouth and let the girl take the spotlight. I’ll give him some leeway though; Eurovision was always his dream, but he really didn’t need to add the backing vocals in Husavik.
If you’re like me and had never previously heard of this movie, it’s about two Icelandians who are or aren’t siblings depending on who you ask, and they accidentally wind up on the Eurovision stage even though they’re really bad as a band. It’s got everything you might need; Demi Lovato with only one arm, murderous elves, and a hot Russian. Highly recommend.
