Taskmaster Australia Season 5

Rating: 1/5

Now, I have to admit I’m only halfway through this season, so I can’t provide a full and inclusive review, but I think with Taskmaster, that doesn’t matter so much. Australians will do Australian things, and Big Tom will make fun of Lesser Tom for simply existing. This season, the five hosted celebrities that most of us had never heard of before (or at least me) are Anisa Nandaula, Brett Blake, Celia Pacquola, Joel Creasey, and Rove McManus. With as far as I’ve watched, I’ve become increasingly concerned about Joel’s wellbeing, and impressed at how Brett manages to go so far off course in just a few minutes. Anisa’s secretly a genius, Rove’s just there because he’s apparently some Aussie legend, and Celia reminds me very much of my mother, so I adore her.

If you live under a rock and haven’t heard of this show before, let along the UK or NZ version (if this applies to you, don’t ever try to be friends with me), it’s just a place where five comedians live under the rule of some older white man who gives them stupid tasks so we can laugh at them. There’s always a small assistant on a small chair who probably doesn’t get paid enough for the shit he gets put through, but we love him the most. Honestly, it’s a good show to watch if you want to feel better about your own competence. I mean, Joel lost a giant blue exercise ball and had a breakdown about it for a whole task.

As usual, it’s just pure chaos and nothing super productive, but if you’ve ever wanted to see Anisa Nandaula attempt to play the floor is lava with a “bagay”, you’re in the right place.
