Why do we keep giving David Seymour a microphone?
If I had to come up with one word to describe this guy it would be ‘dogmatic.’ Most politicians are to some extent, but the way Seymour goes on about a ‘free market’ is frankly baffling. As far back as 2010 on Alberta Primetime, he argued against increasing public transport. He’s currently arguing for a smaller parliament WHILE BEING PART OF A COALITION GOVERNMENT (just a friendly reminder that his proposed changes include abolishing Māori electorate seats.) His views aren’t the only things that have aged poorly but let’s not even mention that he was championing the Treaty Principals Bill and talked about ‘redefining’ the terms of the Treaty in order to promote ‘greater equality.’
Even once a decade, when he does actually make half of a good point, you don’t want to listen to it because you remember the time on Dancing With The Stars where he twerked on live TV in neon workout gear. Like…. He did that. That happened. This is one of the men currently in charge of our country?
That’s not even my favorite video of David Seymour though. That award goes to the Stuff news clip of Seymour on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, speaking in front of a crowd that fully turned their backs on him. During this speech Ngātiwai iwi chair Aperahama Edwards walked up and took his microphone TWICE as he tried to argue that young people had been ‘poisoned’ against him by his critics and cited Te Tiriti as “divisive identity politics.’ On a separate note, I think we should bring back publicly booing people when they say something stupid.
