the untouchable
warmth barely reaches the very last cells on my fingertips
as i reach towards the glowing auburn that whisks with the wind
pull back at the rage of heat that surges to attack with its
plumes of acrid grey shoving up my nostrils
watering eyes that can’t tear from the piles of glowing oak
the stars pinpricking above seem to pull from the earth
tiny twinkles that taunt to touch before they rise
vanishing into the expanse
stones crack and click beneath the shuffle forwards
cheeks flushed with not feeling
but heat that kisses the surface
across the pit
through the raging pyramid of amber sunflowers
i see the wisps of those who sit in front of my mind
but not my eyes
that only appear in the flickering shadows
and not when you seek them head on
i see them dancing in the depths of hell
their flesh charred to dust
flaking away with each bend
twirling into what rises into the dark
the untouchable
