Manosphere Madness

Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere is a compelling but uneven look at misogynistic online influencers and the young men drawn to them. The film effectively exposes an ecosystem where outrage and insecurity are turned into a lucrative business model, with “manfluencers” selling courses, communities, and personas as much as ideas. It’s most powerful when Theroux quietly reveals how trauma, loneliness, and economic precarity make this ideology feel like a lifeline rather than pure hate. At the same time, the documentary often slips into glossy spectacle, echoing the aspirational aesthetics it aims to critique — fast cars, luxury apartments, and gym montages can feel more flattering than interrogative. The focus on a handful of charismatic men also means the broader harms, especially to women and marginalised groups, are under explored. Overall, it’s a sharp, accessible introduction rather than a truly deep investigation.
