As someone who habitually avoided PE all throughout high school, this class is not as intimidating as first expected. On another note, I’ve found where all the sporty kids go when they leave school! (I saw at least five people wearing workout gear in combination with slides.)
As an introductory lesson – very broad overview of topics to come – good outline of expectations. I also learned that athletes used to use strychnine (rat poison) as a Stimulant. Honestly even though I have very little interest in cardio and eating healthy I’m glad I attended this lecture for that pearl of knowledge alone.
The convener (Monica) mentioned her own PHD work with a distinct brand of passion that one can only really find in academia. It’s a combination of endearing excitement and mildly alarming fervour. It’s nice to see a teacher who seems to care so vibrantly about the academic wellbeing of her students.
OH BOY you can tell that most of these guys are first years. Half of them still have their ID lanyards around their necks, it’s adorable.
APPARENTLY, THE MOODLE PAGE IS DOWN. I’m not even enrolled in this class and it’s making me anxious. How will we get ahead of our workloads before we inevitably start procrastinating around the middle of week 3????
This class has a very heavy emphasis on group work and a focus on education that benefits leadership and teamwork. It’s an interesting learning dynamic that I’m quite fascinated by. Maybe a little too much group work for my taste but it’s a good tool to encourage academic discussion ease the fresh-faced first years into what is likely a scary environment.
Two boys behind me started talking about football during one of the group discussion times. I exclusively watch women’s figure skating, and I am confused.
As is typical for a 100 level paper it is very formative content but with a very promising direction for future learning surrounding sociological research and real-world application. ‘Drugs’ was a broad topic of discussion for this lecture, and it made my little anthropologist heart very happy that culture was brought forward as a main tenant of the conversation
