Amira Attempts to Understand Sport

So, I am what one would call a self-proclaimed ‘couch potato’. I have done sports such as cricket and football (football not soccer you can fight me on that), but the majority of the time my exercise is centered around walking to the bus stop. Therefore, I thought I would put myself out of my comfort zone and watch and attempt to commentate on a sports game. I found a highlight reel on YouTube of the recent July 17th Celtics vs. Lakers game and decided I’d give it a try.

First of all, a trivial complaint but as someone with sensitive ears the sound of shoes squeaking against the ground did make me scream on the inside. The game itself seemed pretty simple, bouncing and passing at to me was very quick speeds, the Celtics seemed to be able to get the ball from one end of the court quite fast, although that may not be a good sign for the Lakers.

I have no understanding of positions in basketball so I’m going to assume there is an attack and defence like most sports, and I would say as one would imagine from professional basketball they stuck to their positions well and both teams seemed very well coordinated.

Also, I’m not sure if it’s just me but does anyone else just entirely block out the commentary. I feel as though that also contributed to me not understanding how the game works besides passing a shooting.

Both teams did play extremely well though and the scores were pretty tied up for the most part of it, also I don’t know if this is controversial or not, but I preferred the Celtics in that game. All in all, while watching sports still isn’t my thing I would say the scoreboard was easy to follow along with and a decent source of entertainment.

Sports Quote of the Week

IS THIS A SPORT?

Is Video Editing a Sport?

You warm up cosplaying as a struggling artist, then stretch as you sort through footage and arrange it in the timeline. Consuming many energy drinks, cigarettes, a vape, and a succulent Chinese meal, you frantically dodge ‘Media offline’ messages and your outdated computer crashing. You tackle overcomplicated effects and train with YouTube tutorials, you relay back and forth as you forget where tf you put the footage. This goes on from about 9pm to 5am and somehow feels both like seven years and twenty minutes. That sounds like a sport.

SPORTS CRUSH OF THE WEEK

James Pitonyak

Out of Jersey, James Pitonyak is a standout rider on the There Skateboards team. Throwing down some of the heaviest tricks in “There Ruining Skateboarding” and always rolling away with some east coast steez. He (somehow) makes slip on vans look cool and sits tf back in his roll awayx. Not as aggressive as Chandler or as flamboyant as Nadair, James puts the balance in There. Peep his backside flip, ollie north, and ledge/hubba combos if you ever need ‘board control’ defined.
