Here We Go!

Football is back! After a long break of pre-season games and international competitions, our favourite leagues are finally back in action. Following an interesting transfer window, we’ve seen some heavy hitting first few games, as well as some pretty lacklustre performances. And while it’s entirely too soon to judge, there are certainly some teams that are showing immense promise for this season.

Here at Nexus, we’ve decided to consult some (self-proclaimed) “football pundits” and have them give their top five predictions. This issue, we’re covering the Premier League. Here’s what they had to say:

James:

  1. Man City*
  1. Arsenal
  1. Man United
  1. Spurs
  1. Chelsea

Tehana:

  1. Man City
  1. Arsenal
  1. Liverpool
  1. Spurs
  1. Man United

*City to be on top, but then their 115 charges catch up and they’re relegated.

Farewell, Shaun Johnson.

I’m sure you’ve all heard that our Warriors legend Shaun Johnson played his final home game for the NRL side. While it hasn’t been a rewarding season for the team, Johnson has been a symbol of passion and great sportsmanship throughout his career. So, let’s take a little trip down memory lane and look back at all he has achieved as one of our favourite Kiwi sportsmen.

2011 Debut Season: Johnson’s NRL debut can simply be described as magical. A highlight of this was his 70-metre glory try in round 22 against the Brisbane Broncos. This was named one of the tries of the season.

World’s Best Player: In 2014, Johnson was awarded the IRL Golden Boot Award at the end of the season, an achievement awarded to the best player of the calendar year.

Rewriting The Record Books: In 2017, Shaun Johnson became the all-time leading point scorer (surpassing Matthew Ridge) for the New Zealand Kiwis following their 74-6 victory over Scotland.

Up the Wahs: After a three-year stint with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, Johnson rejoined the Warriors in 2022. However, it was the 2023 season that I’m sure you all remember, as Johnson captured the hearts of our nation with his passion, skill, and overall magical finesse.
