Challengers (2024) 10/10

“Challengers,” is an absolute cinematic gem directed by Luca Guadagnino. Starring the radiant Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor, it is a steamy blend of sports drama and temptation. Guadagnino, known for his visually stunning narratives, brings his signature flair to this movie, (literally) sporting vibrant visuals, and a banging house soundtrack! I’m sure tennis racket sales will skyrocket after this film because honestly, I was so positively influenced!

Zendaya shines brightly as the charismatic lead, bringing depth and charm to her role as a young athlete overcoming obstacles on her path to greatness. Her portrayal is not just about athleticism, but also about the emotional journey of self-discovery and resilience. Perhaps her best acting performance yet, with her character being extremely complex- leaving viewers unsure on her after viewing.

Guadagnino’s direction infuses every frame with a sun-kissed glow, capturing both the intensity of the competitive sports scenes and the intimate moments among teammates. Zendaya plays Tashi, who meets Art and Patrick, two fellow tennis players. Three incredibly attractive tennis players, who all bond… I hope you’re picking up what I’m putting down. The sauce in this movie was an 11/10- exhibiting a type of complex relationship we don’t see too often! All I can say is, maybe don’t watch it with your mum!

Challengers is by far the best movie made this year! I won’t be surprised when it racks up a million awards, as every perfect element was combined to create a visual and audio crispness unlike any other! Go see it if you haven’t already!
