So does Mark One.
Daytripper – Gabriel Ba & Fabio Moon
The first issue of Daytripper seems to be a story in itself, and I’m not so sure what it will be in the long run. But it is a very pretty comic to look at and I like pretty comics even if I don’t entirely get the story they are meant to tell. As far as I can make out Bras is a writer of obituaries and working on a novel, his dad is also a writer and receiving some award, it is Bras’ birthday and his family seem not to notice. And then he dies.
Gabriel Ba is best known to most people as the guy who worked with Gerard Way (the lead singer from My Chemical Romance) on his comic, the Umbrella Academy.
Demo “The Waking Life of Angels” – Brian Wood & Becky Cloonan
Each Demo comic is like a short film, designed to be a story from start to finish in each issue. This one features a young woman, Becky, who hasn’t slept in over a week and is suffering from intense nightmares. We follow her for a little until she finally gets to sleep, but in a very unexpected way. The artwork in Demo is intense; it’s all black and white but very vivid. I really like the concept of this series and the way it is put together seems really well done. I’d read more of it in the future.
Both of these comics are available at Mark One on Victoria Street.
Nexus has a copy of each of these comics to give away: all YOU have to do is come to the office and demand one.
