1. HIM
Metro Theatre, Sydney 22 February, 2010

Every album tour from 2006, HIM have rocked out on stage with their unique “Love Metal” sound in Auckland, wooing hundreds of 16 year old Heartagram-whores. However, this year they decided that, and to quote frontman Ville Valo, coming to New Zealand was not “cost effective”. So, being a HIM fan from way back, I flew over to Oz to see them.

I’m lucky I have such an awesome job – I get to watch as the city comes alive with mad film makers for one weekend a year. Surprise!

There really is nothing quite like pre-loading on drinks at your flat and getting shit faced before you stumble into town at 11.50pm on Saturday night. Even in your drunken haze, you know you made the right choice getting through that 15 box of Speight’s playing wizard and turning up late, cause right now you’re rocking a wizardry level of Gandalf-like proportions.

In a series of early morning raids last week 16 branches of Switched on Gardener, as well as almost 20 other stores, were targeted by police.
As a result of these raids, 250 people have been arrested and charged with over 700 separate charges.
Switched on Gardener is one of New Zealand’s largest suppliers of hydroponic supplies, such as grow lights and plant nutrients, in New Zealand. While not illegal on their own, they are popular with large scale marijuana growers and bored students.

The 20th of May has been declared “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” by Molly Norris, a cartoonist from Seattle. The announcement was made in reaction to Comedy Central’s cutting of a portion of the most recent South Park episode, following a death threat from a radical Muslim group. She saw the announcement as a way to counter the fear and challenge the line of political correctness. Norris explained through her website that the comment was not made to disrespect any religion, only to protect people’s rights to express themselves.
