Air New Zealand is finally doing something good for Hamilton International Airport. A new $39 student stand-by deal will be on offer from September 7th till October 4th as a trial for Hamilton and Dunedin Airports.

The stand-by student deal is a $39 one-way ticket to anywhere in New Zealand that has spare seats on board. Students are advised to get to the airport 90 minutes before departure so they confirm their seats on a first in-first-served basis.

Students will be able to purchase a return standby fare at the same time.

General Manager Domestic Airline for Air New Zealand, John Whittaker, is excited for the opportunity students will have with the new stand-by scheme. “We’re always trialling new low fare initiatives and the chance for students to get cheap tickets to go see family, mates or just visit somewhere new for a change on a whim has got to be a good thing.”

Other requirements for the $39 ticket is that you are only allowed to take a carry bag (7kgs) on the flight and must possess a current student ID.

Students will be able to check departure and availability times on the Air New Zealand website so they can decide what flight they would like to take because a return standby fare can only be purchased at the same time.

30 minutes before departure, students will either be given a boarding pass if there is a spare seat, or asked to wait for the next flight.

All stand-by student flights begin today.
