So, just before the holidays, Google did something big. Really big. Mind you Google never really does anything small, but even this is big by Google's standards. They introduced Wave - a brand new platform that integrates Email, IM, Documents and the internet in a way that Microsoft won't be able to pull out of the air anytime soon. It's not complete yet - they wanted developer input. But wow... in the 1h 20min demo video, I jizzed myself at least 5 times.
And the holidays went by, and the blogosphere died down a bit. The Wave got ignored by the fact that Microsoft is still using their inferior rendering engine in Outlook 2010. I pointed out to people that it didn't matter, because Outlook is a horrible product anyway as anyone who gets more than 10 emails a day will know. I find it vacuous that in order to add any sort of decent search capability, you need to add Windows Search. But anyway, that's another rant for another day.
I can't really care for spreading the love about decent interfaces; I've put my love into one highly concentrated pocket of this world. I got engaged. Top of the Dinsdale hill, where we first exchanged our love verbally. I got down on one knee. I picked out the ring beforehand, and everyone Beverley has shown the ring to seems to think I have good taste. I suppose those years of mac-toting and artsy-picture-taking helped.
Weeks went by, I then went to the World Cyber Games 2009 (aka xLAN), where I rocked as a networks admin once again. My compadre wasn't so lucky, he came down with what was probably H1N1/09 flu, although apparently doctors can't confirm it after 48 hours of contracting it. I made my lucky escape, thanks to my obsessive-compulsiveness of keeping my mac clean with alcohol wipes and washing my hands before eating things (does ANYONE else still do that?).
So I've been house-bound this week making sure I'm not actually infected, which is becoming more apparent I'm not, having time to reflect over a bottle and box set of Veronica Mars with my fiancée. And so as I write this, mostly intoxicated (I've rekindled my love for sauv blanc, a love that was temporarily severe thed morning after the 2008 ASPAs), I can't help but think; my oh my, this is a good year.
